Backlight Bleed/Cloud/Bad Screen Uniformity: Post your Pictures here! I think it would be easier to accept if they all suffered from it to more or less the same degree - then you could just put it down to inherent limitations of the technology, and something you just have to live with. The thing is though, we've all seen that the severity of the problem varies wildly, not just between models, but between different samples of the same model. So what Sony (and presumably the others) are effectively saying, is that it's a limitation of their quality control and on that basis, no, I don't think it's something we should just accept as being . Well, after the technical people at Sony admitted to me this week that backlight bleed/clouding is 'common' and to be 'expected' amongst their range of LCD and LED tv. I did in fact return a couple of samples prior to this one, but for reasons which had nothing to do with BLB, which wasn't an issue with any of them. It's a CCFL backlight of course, I wouldn't expect to have had the same luck with a current LED model.. Would you want to invite the Corleone family over for dinner? Sure, they are well dressed, polite and esteemed connoisseurs of. As I have stated before, I love scary movies even though I get frightened by everything. Untraceable caught my eye the first time I saw a trailer for it. You are quite right, in so much as, it does vary greatly, even on the same model tv. As previously mentioned, I have a Sony EX7. The first set I had was simply appalling - well, loved the PQ on it, but the bleed/mist coming from the right hand side of the screen was dreadful - it was noticeable in normal daytime tv viewing. I spotted this about 1 hour into it being delivered and switched on - obviously I complained to my retailer about this. They did exchange it. My new EX7. 23 does still have some mist/cloud/bleed (whatever you want to refer to it as!) over the left hand side of the screen this time. However, it is certainly NOT as prominent as the prevoius set. It is quite noticeable on a completely black image, but even on dark scenes within programmes it's not *that* bad... So, do I put up with this or just accept it's a common limitation of this tech? I know, when answering other people on here, I've said ? If so, demand a replacement. But - I think mine is pretty borderline as regards this.. I say, not really that noticeable. These pictures are taken with the backlight on 7 and brightness on about 6. I know is a tad high - looks better down at 5. I quite like a bright image! Turning the backlight down further doesn't do much to alleviate it - only the brightness control has any real effect on reducing it...
